COLOMBIS 2004 Châteauneuf du Pape
Colombis 2004 : 2004 is my first harvest on this parcel that I have just acquired, near Henri’s(Bonneau) “Consonnière”. Working on this new “terroir” fascinates me. Very different from Saint Préfert, the soil, vegetation, the more sheltered exposure will make for a different wine from Saint Préfert, the expression of an other terroir of Châteauneuf du Pape. TERROIR: The “quartier” of Colombis is situated west of the village of Châteauneuf du Pape. The parcel is situated on a gentle slope facing North-South. It is abutting on the North to a cliff edged with green oaks and to the west, olive trees and broom. The sandy soil and the clayey sub-soil make it a terroir less sensitive than Saint-Préfert to drought. The vines are not irrigated. YIELD: 25HL/Hectare HARVEST: September 28, 2004. Hand harvested into 26kg crates. Delivery of the harvest: sorting table and then into tank GRAPES: 98% Grenache, 2% Mourvèdre and Syrah AGE OF THE VINES: 40 to 50 year old DEGREE: 14,8% VINIFICATION: In cement tanks. Soft “délestage”, maceration during 5 weeks of fermentation ELEVAGE: In ½ muids of 1 wine BOTTLING: Probably January 2006 in one bottling
