Karl Holzapfel

 

Until recently the wines of Karl Holzapfel were not well known, but within the last two years he has invested a great deal in his vineyard and in his winery in an effort to be considered in the corps of  top winmakers in the Wachau. In an article by peter Hirsch in the Oberösterreichischen Nachrichten, rating the top Grüner Vetliners from the 2002 vintage, Holzapfel’s Achleiten was in the top group coming right after Hirtzberger, Alzinger and F.X. Pichler.  His 2003 Achleiten was the highest rated Grüner from that site in the Vineria tasting.  He certainly has great sites and particularly captures their minerality.
