Eric and Joel Durand

Joel and his brother Eric Durand have been pictured in Revue du Vin de France and are amongst the up and coming vignerons of the Rhone Valley. Their cellars are situated in Chateaubourg north of Cornas and just down the Rhone on the opposite side of Hermitage.

Their St Joseph vines are located on the slope or coteaux just above the village and with this location and its proximity to Hermitage, have very much in common with the style of Hermitage and the better Crozes-Hermitages. Aging is in barrique, but no new oak.  It is bottled unfiltered for us and represents superb value in a Northern Rhone.  In the best years, the parcel "Lautaret", at the crest of the cliff, is bottled separately.

The crown of the domaine, however, is the Cornas produced here which combines weight, power, terroir of the finest Cornas, with the ripe and fine textured tannins that are the hallmark of these brothers’ winemaking. It is all aged in small barrique and again no new oak, and all the wines are bottled unfiltered.

Eric and Joel are rapidly placing themselves in the top tier of Cornas producers.
