Laurent Gregoire Domaine de Beauregard |
|
Young Laurent Gregoire, joining his father Henri upon completion of viticultural college, has made a rapid impact on the French wine press with his superb vinification in the ’96 and ’97 vintages. His vineyards are located at Mouzillon, near Vallet, one of the best situations in Muscadet and their vines are of a very high average age. The cuvee L’Heronniere is on average, 40-year-old vines, with yields of only 45 hl/ha. (Three and one-quarter tons per acre). This is a Muscadet with a real concentration of fruit, structure and length, comparing favorably with a fine Chablis—a really exciting find, and wine. From Le Classement, 2000 Revue du Vin de France "We are always surprised by the modesty of the prices of this domaine…but the terroir of Mouzillon is so good and the vinification of Henri Gregoire so adroit that the Muscadet Sur Lie of Beauregard continues to boast a subtle mineralness, making it the dream companion of oysters…one gains much by allowing at least one year in bottle for the wines of this terroir." The Wine Advocate Issue 130 : "With its sea breeze and mineral aromatics, the 1999 Cuvee Muscadet L’Heronniere is a flavor-packed, medium-bodied, and crisp wine. Stones, minerals, and hints of white fruits can be discerned in this fresh, ripe, and vivacious offering." (88 points)
