Mark Maxwell Maxwell Vineyards |
|
The Maxwell vineyards are situated in the heart of the McLaren Vale at the corner of Olivers Road and Chalk Hill Road. Mark Maxwell has taken over operation of the property and constructed a new winery overlooking the Vale that is one of the most impressive in the area, built into the hillside. Mark’s Reserve Shiraz and Old Vines Semillon have received numerous accolades in the Australian press with the Semillon being from an older, low yielding clone that is vinified without any oak. The Shiraz is grown on clay over limestone with yields of less than two tons to the acre, from a tract along the road that was formerly called Ellen Street and thus he has taken this name for his flagship Shiraz. The Lime Cave Cabernet vines are positioned around a cave built right into the vineyards, out of limestone rock that is found throughout Mark’s soils. These wines that Mark fashions are marked by their fine equilibrium, richness, ripeness and true terroir expression. He is one of the finest producers we work with in Australia.
