CASTELLU D'ALBA

Castellu d’Alba is a collaboration of the brilliant winemaker, Emmanuel Venturi of Clos Venturi, and the Cardosi family, in Liguizzetta, on the coast of Corsica, between the Castagnaccia range and the Mediterranean, at an altitutude of 95 meters. Clementine trees grow throughout this 14 hectare vineyard where the soil is Miocene sableux, with fossilized limestone. Exposition of the vines is northeast and southeast. Viticulture is organic, and fermentations are done with indigenous yeasts.
The Blanc is a blend of 50% Vermentinu, 25% Genovese, and 25% Biancu Gentile. It is entirely hand-harvested, vinified and aged in concrete tank, and bottled unfiltered. The Rouge is a blend of 10% Minustellu, 40% Sciaccarello, and 25% Nielluccio. Vinification and aging takes place in foudre. Bottled unfiltered. The Rosé is 100% Nielluccio vinified and aged in Stockinger foudre, and is bottled without fining or filtration. All of the wines are vinified at Clos Venturi. Sulfites are added only to the minimum allowed by organic certification.
